SICK CELLS (PRE-SALE)
The feature-length documentary Sick Cells is the story of one family’s struggle against a genetic fate and their fight for survival fed mainly by their intense love for each other, religious faith and strong sense of humor. They constantly laugh through their tears. Sick Cells will talk with the Edward Hospital medical team that helps Marqus live with his Sickle Cell Disease, and will also highlight the stories of other Sickle Cell Disease Sufferers.
We are currently trying to raise funds to cover our production costs which will include: crew, video equipment, travel to interview experts in the field, medical animations, and our website.
We plan to use all proceeds from the completed Sick Cells Film to help turn the film into a vehicle that will help promote awareness of Sickle Cell Disease including the trials and tribulations patients experience as well as their thoughts and feelings on how they are treated by the hospitals where they receive treatment and ways in which hospitals, doctors and other medical professionals can better help them handle their illnesses.
We also plan to create an informational hotline and direct support network for parents whose children are diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease, as well as help better people manage their Sickle Cell Disease who are making the transition from childhood to adulthood with the disease. We feel that there is a large disparity in attention, support, and help between children who suffer with Sickle Cell Disease and adults who suffer with the same disease. We hope the film and the ensuing support network it creates will provide more help and attention to people from the ages of 18 and on who suffer from Sickle Cell Disease.
